gluten free labels are so puzzling to me. why does a bag of corn tortilla chips or a container of hummus need a gluten free label? who are these people with gluten allergies or celiacs that dont know corn and garbanzo contain no gluten? is there a single example of tortilla chips or hummus with gluten in them? i dont think there is. so, it must be that these labels are for people who have no idea what gluten is and have stopped eating it for fad-diet and faux-health reasons. which brings me to another puzzling dichotomy: it is much easier to convince people it is bad to eat carbohydrates, grains, and gluten than it is to persuade some one to consider the health benefits of not eating meat or dairy, let alone the ethical consideration. where does that come from? cholesterol and fat is unhealthy for 100% of the human population in excess. but gluten and carbs are the real enemy?
gluten is bad for you - sounds good. accepted as fact.
maybe animals dont like living in confinement for the production of milk and eggs - idk, that sounds a little dubious. i’d have to really think about that one. and i’m not sure that i care anyways. eggs and cheese are just so yummy.
i honestly dont care that more people are not vegan, but it does confuse the hell out of me that more people can be convinced of the ills of gluten regardless of their understanding of the protein, than can be asked to consider their meat and dairy consumption.
yea, gluten is protein. so carbs are bad, but protein is harmless, unless the protein comes from a plant, then we have to reconsider it.
